這首歌是 Mary Hopkins 在 1968 年發行的處女作。原曲來自二十世紀初的蘇聯吉普賽歌謠 Dorogoi dlinnoyu (Дорогой длинною)，第一個錄音作品是西元 20 年代蘇聯的全能文藝青年 Alexander Vertinsky。Mary Hopkins 的作品則是最受歡迎的英譯版本。
