I thought I was the only one struggling with Chinese typing. Couldn't even remember my PinYin {:1_743:}
After 30+ years in US, just got back to Taiwan for 2 years due to work and lived in 北大特區 for 5 months.
Glad to join this group and be able to type in English and some 中文都靠手寫板. The draw back of 手寫板is that you have to know the word to start with, {:1_765:}

Hello, old-timer. I left Taiwan 1979. I am still in the US, and plan to enjoy the new condo one month out of a year. may spend more time in Taiwan after kid all finished colledge.

Here comes another Texan couple. We've lived in Austin for 30 years. recently retired after 30+ years of service for a high tech company in town. Glad to know there is such a group in iBeta Community. We just finished decorating/furnishing the condo unit at Yale earlier this year, haven't had much time to enjoy the leisure life there yet. We plan to be back before Xmas and stay for about two months. Hope to meet with some of you!

I went to Pitt for my grad school 20+ years ago. PA definitely has better air quality than in CA where I live now. CA is much better than Taiwan... Well, it is always by comparison.
Talking about shipping stuff back to Taiwan. I shipped a cargo (20') of furniture back to Taiwan in 2009. I did most of shopping online by clicking. :-) It worked well and there are couple dealers I really like. Let me know if anybody wants the contact information.
By the way, I recently learned that the sofa set I bought from Macy's of Natuzzi brand would cost a fortune in Taiwan. The reason is that Macy's have leather sofa of this brand made in Poland or China. The Natuzzi flagship store in Neihu is placing orders directly to its Italian manufacturer. As a result, it is about 5 times more expensive than what is sold in Macy's!!

I am very close to San Jose! My office is 42 miles north in Emeryville so I always tell people who commute between BeiDa and Taipei City is a "piece of cake." :-)

Indeed, I like the Taipei METRO, it is very clean and fast and convenient.
iBeta community is a place we enjoy very much.

Any one starts collecting your social security retirement benefits yet? Should we collect at the age of 62 or until full retirement benefit age, any thoughts?

I was at Pitt Graduate program in 1990-91, did not finish, went to PennState for MBA, Class of '92.

Indeed a small world. I completed my study and left Pitt to work at Ohio State in 1991. Now people are gathering back to Taiwan! I visited Taiwan briefly last month for a week. There are a lot of new shops in the area. Many new buildings as well.

Looks like you guys are much younger than us, at least 10-15 years younger. Our children were already grown up and work at finance and IT/networking industries. Like 消遙and many others, we will enjoy our retirement here and spend half time in US visiting children and families. Thanks.
