There are quite a few taxes and costs which make the average car ( My car is Volvo XC70) uneconomical to bring in plus Hsan-Hsia has excellent buses transportation, so we are still pondering do we need a car in Taiwan.

You are correct 100%. Some make/models are not cost effective to bringing into Taiwan after one adds up all the fees and import duties. The issue depends on a lot of variable factors. My Honda S2000 is on the recommended "bringing-in" list because the rarity of the car. Honda ended the S2000 line in year 2009. This model is now much sought after.

We wait till settle down then purchased vechical in TW. In the very beginning, we all take public transportation between 北大 and other city.
