這首歌在創作發行之初並沒有得到十分好的效果，歌曲於1977年進入Hot 100單曲的第97名。1980年夏琳離開摩城唱片，搬到英國。1982年，DJ Scott Shannon在電台播出了這首歌，引起不少聽眾的興趣。一夜間這首歌拿下全美排行榜第三和英國第一的好成績，夏琳也成為家喻戶曉的歌星。然而，夏琳沒能延續這種成功，1983年，她推出的新專輯銷售不理想，1985年再度離開樂壇，不過這首I've Never Been to Me卻一直傳唱至今，成了夏琳唯一的一首暢銷曲。(维基百科轉載)
